Helping you with your divorce

Our leading family law team is renowned for its expertise dealing with divorce cases in the most difficult situations, offering a sensitive yet no nonsense approach to both straight forward and complex divorces.  Whilst our divorce lawyers will always look to secure the best outcome for our clients we remain sensitive to the wider picture in each case and will advise on the most appropriate way to tackle divorce issues to avoid unnecessary confrontation.

Our divorce lawyers

Both Andrew Don and Brenda Long are recognised by their peers as national leaders in family law, so you can be assured that when you come to us you are being represented by some of the top divorce lawyers in the country.

Each member of our Family law team belongs to Resolution and the team is experienced in using both collaborative law and mediation to help settle disputes.

Take legal advice on divorce

It is always important to obtain expert legal advice on separation, divorce or the breakdown of a civil partnership, as people are especially vulnerable and may need to take steps to protect their long-term financial security.

Ancillary relief and financial matters

Within the context of a divorce or dissolution the process of resolving financial issues between the parties is referred to as ‘ancillary relief’.

Where there are significant assets such as the family home, investments, trusts and pensions or where there are other requirements for maintenance, parties should seek professional advice as soon as possible, so that matters can be addressed swiftly.

We can help to achieve a fair and sensible financial agreement and will assist in enforcing this agreement should one party refuse to cooperate.

Resolving Disputes

As well as giving legal advice we can offer two alternative methods of resolving disputes:

Mediation

Mediation is a voluntary process in which an independent third party works with a couple to help them to arrive at a mutually acceptable settlement.

Mediation can take place before or during the legal process and can prove quicker, cheaper and less contentious than the more conventional legal route. In particular it can encourage good communication between a couple which can assist in the longer term, particularly if there are children.

Collaborative Law

Collaborative Law is a new way of resolving family disputes  by avoiding the need to go to court.

The process works by putting the couples in charge of the process, with their solicitor orchestrating four way face to face meetings where all parties are committed to resolving issues without going to court.  These methods hope to limit confrontation and help couples reach a satisfactory resolution.

In our team we have four trained collaborative lawyers.

Why pay London prices?

Many people with complex divorces look to the bigger London firms to handle their cases. Our family solicitors are skilled at handling even the most complex cases and have earned a reputation for providing a standard of work equal to that of their more expensive London counterparts.

We often represent our clients in the same London Courts as these firms but charge our clients only a fraction of the cost.

"The fact that matters have concluded satisfactorily from my point of view, with both my dignity and integrity intact, is due largely to your considerable expertise and professionalism.

Put simply, I couldn’t have done it without you."
