Services for Later Life

You are here: blandy.co.uk > Personal > Services for Later Life

Almost 10 million people in the UK are now aged 65 years and over, an increase of more than 2 million since the 1970s. In general people are not only living longer but are of better health and have more money at their disposal to enjoy a long and active retirement.

However, getting older can also make you aware of the need to plan ahead to protect your assets, leave your affairs in order and provide for your loved ones.

At Blandy & Blandy we are proud of the fact that many of our private clients have remained with the firm for the whole of their lives returning to us whenever they are in need of legal advice.

Amongst our legal services are many that are of particular importance to our older clients who appreciate the peace of mind that they receive knowing that their affairs are being looked after by skilful, qualified and empathetic advisors.

Wills

If you haven’t already made a will you should consider doing so. Your estate can then be passed on in line with your wishes and you can avoid complications for those you leave behind.

Inheritance tax

With the increasing price of property many more of us have estates that will exceed the inheritance tax threshold. Through judicious use of tax planning we can help your beneficiaries avoid having to pay some or all of the inheritance tax that would otherwise be payable.

Powers of Attorney

Powers of attorney allow others to assume your role and look after your wellbeing and day to day affairs should you become incapable of doing so yourself. Enduring Powers of Attorney are no longer available and have now been replaced by a new power known as a Lasting Power of Attorney. We are able to advise on how these new powers will work.

Access to Grandchildren

It is a sad fact that, in today’s world, divorce and separation are more commonplace than ever before. When a relationship breaks down, the wishes and feelings of grandparents are often overlooked. However where there are established relationships with grandchildren, Grandparents can seek permission of the Court to make their own independent application in respect of residence or contact. We can help with this process.

Financial services

At Blandy & Blandy we believe we are unique in the area for providing our own independent financial advice service. Our advisors supplement our legal services, taking an holistic approach to financial planning. They are particularly experienced when it comes to providing services for later life.

Long term care planning

Our advisors are some of the few who are qualified by exam to provide advice on all aspects of long term care. They particularly emphasise the involvement of all members of the client’s family and advisors.

Investment advice

Investment advice to give you peace of mind and to ensure adequate levels of income are maintained.

Our approach

Although much of the work we do can be carried out by post or over the phone there are times when it is important to meet. We understand that some of our elderly clients are unable to get to our offices and are happy to hold meetings at client’s homes wherever necessary.

"I really do thank you for all you did. Your motto certainly seems to be: "The difficult we do at once, the impossible may take five minutes."

It is so good to have such a friendly and efficient office at the end of the telephone when you're dealing with unfamiliar matters."
