Blandy’s Care Service
At Blandy & Blandy we have gained particular expertise over the years advising older clients, particularly where provision for long term care is required. This can be an especially difficult and stressful time for both them and their families, when significant expenditure may often be necessary to meet the costs of care.
We offer our clients the peace of mind that comes from knowing that their affairs are being looked after by skilled, qualified and empathetic advisors. Not only do key individuals in our team have membership of Solicitors for the Elderly but we also offer our own financial services department which is qualified through the Financial Services Authority to offer independent financial advice relating to care.
Very often we find that our clients’ and their families’ major concerns are:
- How much will care cost?
- How do I find a suitable care home?
- What financial help, if any, will I get from the State?
- Will I need to sell my home?
- How long will my capital last and what happens after it has run out?
- Will the cost of care mean that, after my death, my family’s inheritance will be reduced or lost?
- Is my Will up to date?
- What happens if I am unable to look after my own affairs?
- Should I give away my assets and let the State bear the costs of caring for me?
- Who can I turn to?
In recent years we have seen demand for our services in this complex area increase significantly; a reflection perhaps of our population’s increasing longevity and the reduction in help from the State for those needing care in their later years.
Our Care Service
At Blandy & Blandy we offer our clients and their families a comprehensive service designed to give complete confidence in the management of their care needs.
Our services include:
- Review of any existing Wills
- Advice on Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection matters
- Advice on eligibility for State funding for care
- Trust, Tax & Estate planning
- Advice on meeting the cost of care
- Investment advice
- Liaising with the care provider, whether that care is provided at your home or in a care home
- Selling your property
- Continuing reviews and advice year after year
On taking up our service you will be allocated an experienced senior member of our team who will coordinate the advice on your affairs and regularly liaise with all the members of our team, the care provider and, most importantly, you and your family, to ensure your needs are met both at the outset and in the future.
How does our Service work?
- We hold an initial meeting with you (and your family if you wish), either at your home, the care home or our offices, whichever is most convenient. We make no charge for this first meeting, which is also without commitment. This enables us to determine your needs and how they can best be met;
- Once you decide to appoint us we will prepare a report for you, making specific recommendations, with input from all relevant members of our team which we will discuss with you;
- When we have an agreed way forward we will implement our recommendations, including completing any forms and handling all other relevant procedures, to relieve the burden, as much as possible, from you and your family;
- If your house is being sold, you will have the benefit of our experienced Residential Property team to ensure the sale completes as quickly and simply as possible;
- We will, if you wish, keep in regular contact with your care providers
- We will keep in regular contact with you and will always arrange an annual meeting to review your affairs
We aim to give you and your family the very best care advice, both at the outset and in the years ahead. If you would like to find out more or if you would like to arrange an initial meeting at no cost to you and with no commitment, please telephone Catherine Diamond on 0118 951 6800 or email catherine.diamond@blandy.co.uk
We look forward to being able to help.
