Every two years, colleagues select a pair of local charities to "adopt" and support through fundraising and donations.
In July 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we were delighted to have chosen two local charities supporting the NHS in our region, Babies in Buscot Support (BIBS) and The Royal Berks Charity.
Charities we have supported
Over time, we are proud to have supported and donated funds to local and national causes including those highlighted below.
For over 15 years, we have also supported Cancer Research UK, through the charity’s free will scheme. We are proud to have helped raise nearly £1.5 million and to have received a Gold Award for fundraising from the charity in 2019.
Local fundraising events
Whilst our adopted charities remain our primary focus, we also continue to support other local causes and events throughout the year where possible, typically including the Reading Pancake Race (in aid of Launchpad Reading), the Reading Santa Run (in aid of Reading Rotary) and the Reading Legal Walk (in aid of free legal advice agencies).
We also give our time as trustees and governors, in support of university and school careers fairs, and through volunteering.
Colleagues are given a day each every year, which they can dedicate to volunteering in support of a local charity.
Most recently, this has included over 30 staff spending a day at Readifood's warehouse in Reading, sorting and delivering food bank items to families in our area.
