Reading Crown Court Opening Marked by Annual Service

The Crown Court calendar was officially opened in Reading on Thursday 5 October, marked by the traditional annual service at Reading Minster.

Joint managing partner Jonathan Gater, in his role as Under Sheriff for Berkshire, was joined by dignitaries including High Court judge The Honourable Mr Justice Spencer and the circuit judges of Reading Crown Court.

The role of Under Sheriff has been held by a representative at Blandy & Blandy for many years. Jonathan Gater (front) has done so since 2002.

The service itself has been held at this time of year in Reading since the 17th Century – the first record dating back to 1681.

Reading Minster welcomed magistrates from across Berkshire, as well as police officers, representatives from the military and faith communities, crown court judges, court officials and guests.
