Jonathan Gater, joint managing partner at Blandy & Blandy, also weighed in on the risks of AI-generated wills. He noted that while AI-generated wills may seem appealing, they are still in a relatively early stage and raise serious concerns. "AI is still at a relatively early stage and much remains untested and unknown, and indeed underregulated," Gater said. "There are many understandable concerns, ranging from the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content to issues around cybersecurity and privacy."

Gater compared AI-generated wills to DIY will kits, warning that while these options might seem like cost-saving solutions, they often lead to costly and time-consuming disputes after a person's death. "A will that has not been professionally drafted may contain errors, meaning that your estate is not administered as you had intended - it may not be correctly witnessed, which can invalidate your will, or your loved ones could be left dealing with a costly and time-consuming dispute.

"Using a regulated firm means that you will be advised by qualified lawyers or experienced advisers working under their supervision, who will be able to guide and support you through the process. It also means that you will be firmly protected and have the right to legal recourse if there are any errors in your Will or another issue were to arise."
