Friday 8 March marks International Women's Day and Blandy & Blandy continues to help lead the way in the legal sector.
According to data published by the Solicitors Regulation Authority's (SRA) in December 2023, only 37% of partners in all law firms in England and Wales are women, yet women now make up 53% of the solicitor profession.
Paul Philip, Chief Executive of the SRA, said: “A diverse and inclusive legal profession which reflects the wider community is not only good for the public, but good for legal businesses themselves. It benefits everyone to have the most talented people from all backgrounds able to work and progress in the legal sector. Things are slowly improving, but there is still more to do.”
Chairman and partner Nick Burrows, who succeeded Blandy & Blandy’s first female chair, Brenda Long, appointed in 2016, explains: “We are very proud of the fact that 12 (66%) of our 18 partners are women, having this year welcomed new partners Claire Clarke and Gemma Kemp to our growing Family Law team. Two-thirds of our current senior associates and associates are also women, continuing this path.
This has not happened by design but instead reflects Blandy & Blandy’s culture and longstanding support for women in business, with many of our female partners having progressed into partnership over time (in several cases starting out at the firm as trainees), reflecting their significant contributions to the sustained success of our firm.”
