Seminar Welcomes President Elect of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI)

Blandy & Blandy welcomed Ian Tant as its guest speaker at this year's Planning Law Seminar on 1 February 2018.

A former senior partner at Barton Willmore, Ian is now a freelance consultant and currently vice president of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). In 2019 he will become president of the professional membership based organisation, which represents over 24,000 planning professionals working worldwide in the public, private, charitable and education sectors.

Reflecting on “the broken housing market” and a “chronic under delivery spanning more than a decade”, Ian discussed ‘Planning for Housing in 2018’ and the positive steps that must be taken to address the problem.

Alongside Ian, Blandy & Blandy’s team of Karen Jones, Simon Dimmick and Victoria Charlesson provided respective updates on case law, “Planning Taxes – Effects on Profitability” and  “No Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) – No Development?”.

The event, held at Reading Borough Council’s civic offices, welcomed representatives of leading firms including Barton Willmore, Savills, Haslams, Peter Brett Associates, Lichfields, Turley, Vail Williams, Boyer Planning, Bell Cornwell and PJSA Chartered Surveyors, alongside local authorities, landowners and developers.

In their feedback, attendees described the event as "excellent", “very interesting with a good range of topics covered” and "well and clearly presented". The speakers were credited for their "great content" and for "really knowing their stuff".

Blandy & Blandy is ranked among the UK’s top Planning Law firms by Planning Magazine and the firm is highly ranked for planning, environmental and property law in both Chambers UK Guide and The Legal 500.
