Training Contracts

We attach a great deal of importance to recruiting trainee solicitors, who we view as an important part of nurturing a forward thinking approach and as an investment in our firm's future.

Many of our current partners and solicitors trained at the firm, including our newest associates, our joint managing partners and our chairman.

Wherever possible we like to retain and continue to develop those who have trained with us, as further highlighted in some of our colleagues' comments below.

Recognising our successful approach, we were named ‘Best Trainer - Medium Regional Firm’ at the LawCareers.Net Training & Recruitment Awards 2015 and as a finalist again in 2016, while the firm is also recognised in the latest Lex 100 Survey and praised for aspects including client contact, work/life balance, friendliness, quality of work and job satisfaction.

In addition, Blandy & Blandy LLP was awarded one star status in the Best Companies survey, having twice previously twice been acknowledged as ‘one to watch’.

The application process for training contracts beginning in 2022 is now open.

Blandy & Blandy LLP is an equal opportunities employer and we are committed to eliminating discrimination and to promoting equality and diversity.

Our trainee solicitors typically spend six months in four departments (known as seats) over a two year period. Wherever possible, we aim to cater to your individual preferences.

Trainee solicitors typically share office space with their assigned supervisor (a partner or associate solicitor), to support continuous professional development and allow you to experience the day-to-day challenges of a qualified solicitor.

Trainees also complete a compulsory PSC (professional skills course). There are three core areas covered - business skills, advocacy and client care – while you are also able to choose electives in areas of law that are of greatest interest. Most of these training days take place in Oxford, Guildford or London and it is a good chance for you to meet fellow trainees from other law firms in the region.

There are regular informal reviews and a formal appraisal is held every six months to review and discuss your progress and identify areas for future development.

Trainees are actively encouraged to attend, and sometimes asked to support, seminars, networking events and careers fairs.

Seats are typically available in the following departments:

  • Commercial Property
  • Corporate & Commercial
  • Dispute Resolution
  • Employment
  • Family
  • Planning & Environmental
  • Probate, Tax & Trusts
  • Residential Property
